Play by Live Journal RPG [31 Jul 2005|10:26am]

Hi all!

I'm new to live journal, so if a post of possible interest is agasint your norms, I do apologize. But I saw a community of decent minded fan fic writers and thought I'd share and invite.

For those interested, my wife and I are starting a "Play by Email" or Live Journal game of Harry Potter, set in the 1930's and 40's. It will be a Role Playing Game so people are encouraged to take on characters, and write about events from their perspective. We thought that the live journal format would draw more interest, as well as make it easier to read and post. Unlike most RPG's this is meant as a Writing Group. Meaning that all posts are to be prose using all characters, not just first person perspectives etc.

We are still developing the community rules, posting guidelines, format for the journal itself and such, but welcome people to join the community and get started with us.

The reason we picked the starting date of Sept 1938 is that we also want to explore how wizarding world reacts to the war in the muggle world. In a way, Rowlings has said that the two worlds aren't that different, so we thought this would be fun to write about. It also frees us from having to worry too much about "Cannon" as most of the main characters aren't even born yet.

If you'd be interested feel free to join the Sorting Community and post about the kind of character you would want to write about. Once the "application" is approved, we'll invite you to the to the community for posting and writing.

As I said, we're still working up the "rules" and such, but encourage everyone to have a gander, and kick some ideas around. And being on Live Journal, anyone will be free to leave comments on how the story is going, share ideas on where to go, etc.

Feel free to check it out.

I come bearing fic [16 Mar 2005|01:06am]

[ mood | geeky ]

Hullo. Just found this community, and thought it seemed like the place to post my fic about the Sorting of the Marauders. Hope this is on topic, and that I haven't OOC'd the dear old Hat too badly.

Title: True or False
Author: pica_scribit
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst
Characters: Sirius, Remus, James, Peter, Lily, Snape, Kreacher, the Black sisters, the Lestrange brothers, Lucius Malfoy, Gilderoy Lockhart, Fabian Prewett, and of course the Hat.
Summary: Inside Azkaban Prison, Sirius remember his Sorting.
Associated Fics: This fic currently has nine chapters, but I thought this worked well enough as a stand alone to post here.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. No money is being made. Don't sue me.

Feedback always welcome and appreciated

Hello. I thought you might be interested in this fic, which is about the Marauders getting sorted. There's been a lot of contention about which Houses they were put in - especially about Peter - so I thought I'd argue why they all belonged in Gryffindor.

Any comments and criticism would be loved and adored.

Let the Sorting now begin.Collapse )

Searching for a Story... [04 Jan 2005|10:02pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

I think this is the best place to turn on matters of the dear Hat. ^_~ I recently read a fic that was just marvelous...Had the method of the Hat's sorting as listening for strains of music in each student, matching their melody with the closest one of the Founders. Stupidly, I didn't bookmark it or I deleted the bookmark in my boomark organizational overhaul. Anyone know the piece I'm talking about and care to direct a hapless Hat fan in the right direction?

A thought occurs.... [04 Oct 2004|12:51pm]

All these Sues that decide to threaten/coax/coerce our beloved Hat into changing its mind about their placement? Not only bratty, but I suspect completely needless.

Seriously. Have we ever seen anybody who's expressed a preference get sorted anywhere else?

Or does referring to canon make entirely too much sense? ;)

Psychotic Ginny-Sue Warps the Sorting Hat to Her Twisted Will [30 Sep 2004|03:41pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

This report on the deleterius community has a psychotic Death Eater Ginny-Sue controlling the Sorting Hat, making it resort everyone in the school and being especially nasty to Hufflepuffs.

Hi there. New here.

I'm wondering what you think of the sorting sites out there (yes, I read the user info, but I'm asking anyway). I just got dubbed squib by one such site because my answers weren't long enough. I also got verbally abused and kicked out of the community, and I wonder--since when was the sorting hat such a pimple-faced preteenaged rage-aholic?

Or is it just me?

I'm getting a huge kick out of the posts here, by the way. The last one from deleterious made me spit out my coffee.

Hi all. *waves* I'm a newbie. I love the Sorting Hat dearly - actually, the house system is one of the more fascinating aspects of the Harry Potter books. (I'm really into personality psychology and all that.) I also think that the Sorting Hat is one of the coolest objects ever invented by an author, and that includes all the magic swords in literature. (Actually, I find magic swords to be quite boring.)

So I guess I'll see you around!

From a fic recently reported at deleterius:

How did that sorting song go anyway?” Asked Harry, coming into the conversation.

“Didn’t it go, The sorting hat has come upon you, If you find a smarter hat then me, I’ll have to fill myself with stinky poo and pee.” Said Ron having a giggling fit.

The poor Sorting Hat really doesn`t deserve this. *sigh*

*waves her newbie wave* [01 Jun 2004|07:45pm]

[ mood | confused ]

Hullo, hullo. My name is Sabrina. I'm a big, big, big Harry Potter fan. I'm in the process of writing a Harry/Draco slash, and I'm going to use (and hopefully not abuse) the Sorting Hat. I've written (with my wonderful friend Erin, who truly did most of the work) four stanzas of the Sorting Hat's song. But I'm stuck on Slytherin. Damn Slytherins. So, if you could be of aid and look over this poem, and then give me some traits one associates with Slytherin, I will lavish you with praise.

hem, hem

The hat you see before you looks
Like nothing, more or less,
Than an old and battered wizard's cap.
You're surely not impressed.

But when you put me on your head,
You'll be surprised to find,
That though I have no eyes to see,
I can see inside your mind.

I may see you're a Ravenclaw,
You're brilliant as a star.
And with the knowledge you'll obtain,
You're sure to go quite far.

If loyalty, patience, hardwork,
And kindness are your traits,
Then Hufflepuff shall be your House
Where you'll meet your best mates.
(alternate line: Where you shall alway have a mate.)

Comments? Suggestions? Help? Thanks for your time.

Sorting Hat/Sortina OTP!!!1! [14 May 2004|07:33pm]

Well, seeing all the mary sues wandering about beating on our good ol' Sorting Hat (god knows he must be losing it to actually respond to a Sue digging her heel into his, erm, skull.), I figured he needed some Sue lovin'. So, I present to you Sortina, the new transfer sorting hat- I'll leave it all to you to come up with her tortured Sue background.

She's goth on Wednesdays.

What is it with Japanese Sues and Sorting Hat abuse? [13 May 2004|07:45pm]

This Sue makes the Sorting Hat speak Engrish. AARGH!!!

With that Aingel gracefully walked over to the chair and sat down on it and slowly pulled the hat over her head. (Aingel's P.O.V.)
When the hat slid onto my head, it started talking to me in Japanese. I smiled; I was having a conversation with a hat in Japanese! He talked about houses or something and at the end in English he shouted out, "Gurifindooru!!! Oh, opps, this is an English school..GRYFFINDOR!!"

From today's pottersues:

"*You stupid hat! Learn Japanese!!*"

She appeared to be getting annoyed, causing the Slytherin table to laugh at how odd she seemed to be. Finally, the hat had decided: "SLY-"

Naoko ripped the hat from her head, stepping on it and grinding her foot down threateningly. "*What was that....*"

Yeah, I'm sure you can bully the hat into changing its mind. Because the hat is always wrong. And it's a pushover.

(And wouldn't bullying the hat be a more Slytherin trait anyway?)

Hi. :) [09 Feb 2004|11:10am]

Sorting Hat fan checking in. I have a series of Sorting stories going on at Sugarquill (Of A Sort), with Sorting Songs in chapters 1, 3, and 7 (Dumbledore, Riddle, and the Marauders' year). Figured I'd shamelessly plug. :)

Movie Abuse [13 Dec 2003|12:30am]

[ mood | amused ]

Just watched the second Potter movie. I don't quite remember the Hat getting flung about so much in the book...poor Hat. Don't blame it if it tries to eat a hand or something.

Fanart, in which Slytherin is substituted for Hufflepuff in a decidedly odd manner. [03 Dec 2003|10:48pm]

[ mood | blah ]

This thing is a Harry Potter Mary Sue, as we find out from the author's note. Relevant Sorting Hat rape:

Tomadoi shows up around the third book, and is a transfer student from a Japanese school of Magic. She is unable to speak any english. She usually has to use a translation spell in order for people to understand her. This little bit kind of ticked off the Sorting Hat when it tried to sort her (couldn't understand her intentions), so it just tossed her in Slytherin.
